“I was born under the sign of the Leo,” the iconic Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel loved to proclaim. The new high-end jewellery collection “sous le signe du lion”, showcases the emblematic animal of her zodiac sign, and consists of 58 grand feline pieces.
The collection connects to an important aspect of Chanel’s life, when she first visited Venice in 1920 to mourn the death of Boy Capel, her great love. Venice gripped her imagination and the canals and narrow streets allowed Chanel to lose herself in the beauty of the enchanting city. Surprisingly, the lion is the emblem of the city, and she found it carved in stone statues, in columns, and above all, The Lion of Saint Mark, representing the evangelist St Mark, the patron saint of the city.
Pictured here are the sumptuous and imposing “Lion Royal” pendant earrings in 18-karat white gold and platinum set with 952 brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 7.2 carats, two pear-cut diamonds totalling 6.3 carats and eight fancy-cut diamonds weighing 4.5 carats.
