Jewellery house Asian Star hosted Rendezvous Luxe, a couture diamond jewellery extravaganza for Mumbai’s elite at the Trident, which also supported the NGO Save the Children India. Guests were seen admiring the sparkling jewellery inspired by the cultural confluence of the east and the west during the colonial era in India and were treated to models flaunting showstopper pieces in elegant gowns by Shehla Khan. Celebrities like Madhoo, Mana Shetty and Sharmila Khanna among others were also seen at the do. Nush Lewis, a popular harpist-cum-singer, set the mood for the evening by treating the guests to some acoustic music. It was heartening to observe that besides their passion for jewellery, the guests showed genuine concern and willingness to support the noble cause of Save the Children India, that works towards enriching the lives of children from a less privileged background.
Celebrated designer Anita Dongre forayed into jewellery with an exquisite handcrafted line Pinkcity, produced by Pradeep Jethani of Jet Gems, Mumbai. Taking her signature design aesthetic forward, the jewellery is reminiscent of the elegance, charm and grandeur of the royal Mughal era. Commenting on the launch, Anita said, “Pinkcity is a natural extension of our fashion line and jewellery forms an integral part of the wedding trousseau.” Pinkcity truly is a metaphor for love, commitment, traditional craftsmanship and impeccable design aesthetics. The 18- and 22-karat gold collection is accentuated with the sparkle of diamonds and coloured gemstones. The launch at the Anita Dongre bridal store in Phoenix Mills was attended by Shabana Azmi, Sangeeta Bijlani, Isha Koppikar and Sanjay Suri among others.
WOMEN OF HONOUR
Prima Gold, India’s first and only brand of 24-karat pure gold jewellery made in Thailand, in association with Business Today, honoured the 30 most powerful women in Indian business at the ITC Grand Central in Mumbai. Leading women from across various businesses – Kirthiga Reddy, Renuka Ramnath, Vinita Bali, Sairee Chahal, Suchi Mukherjee, Pallavi Gupta, Anisha Singh, Naina Lal Kidwai, Zia Mody and Shikha Sharma – voiced their opinions on the role of women in the Indian business scenario. Ursula Burns, the chairman and CEO of Xerox Corporation, was the chief guest for the evening.
Anmol Jewellers recently hosted an interactive session, The Art of Wedding Design, through a Live Google Hangout at its showroom in Mumbai. AZVA PAINTS THE TOWN RED
With the bridal season just around the corner, Azva by the World Gold Council showcased a new range of 22-karat gold bridal jewellery at the fourth edition of the India Bridal Fashion Week. With designs meant to capture the imagination and fancy of the contemporary Indian bride, the new Azva collection featured perfect couture gold jewellery crafted by some of the best craftsmen in the country. Alia Bhatt sizzled on the ramp in a stunning Azva neckpiece, bracelet and earrings. Azva’s latest collection also graced the runway at Rohit Bal, Raghavendra Rathore and Rina Dhaka’s respective shows at the Indian Bridal Fashion Week. Azva bridal jewellery is inspired by the seven vows, which are an integral Indian wedding ritual. Each piece reflects the idea of seven with beautifully handcrafted elements such as flowers, circles and rows – all seven in number and fashioned in 22-karat gold. The collection will be available at leading jewellery stores from october 2013.
PC Jeweller added sparkle to Satya Paul’s demi couture collection at the PCJ Delhi Couture Week 2013. The Masaba Gupta designed creations were paired with exquisite jewellery by PC Jeweller. Kundan bridal sets, contemporary diamond jewellery with gemstone-studded centres, antique gold and vintage diamond jewellery graced the runway. This is the second year that PC Jeweller has associated itself with the couture week. Balram Garg, managing director, PC Jeweller said, “Delhi Couture Week is the one of the most prestigious events of the fashion industry and is eagerly awaited by the audience. It is a pleasure to tie up with a veteran brand like Satya Paul.”
Bollywood actress Mugdha Godse unveiled Gaja’s latest range of lightweight diamond jewellery at its franchise stores in Gazipur, Allahabad and Gorakhpur. The new range features contemporary designs and comes at an affordable price range of Rs. 5,000 onwards.
Varun Bahl unveiled his fall 2013 haute couture collection, titled Flight, at the PCJ Delhi Couture Week 2013. The bird motif, a recurring element through the collection, signified the freedom of the idea of Indian haute couture from traditional clichés. The fashion showcase, presented by Audi, was a reflection of the perception of haute couture in India, a country rich in hand-embellishments, embroidery techniques, and fantastical textiles. Flight marked the merger of Varun Bahl’s signature embroideries with modern silhouettes, redefining the concept of embellishment, and making it more accessible and desirable for the contemporary Indian woman. The guests at the fashion event also got an exclusive preview to Audi’s especially designed brand identity for its much-anticipated innovations for the Fall 2014 collection.

Watches and More aims to revolutionise shopping experiences for customers with the launch of their new store at High Street Phoenix. Opened amid much fanfare, a special flash mob dance rolled out the red carpet, and the store was inaugurated by Atul Ruia, joint managing director of Phoenix Mills and Biren Vaidya of Rose Group of Companies. Sporting a brand new look, the Watches and More outlet combines shopping and entertainment. The store has replaced the humble cash counter with tech-savvy tablets, while large plasma TVs and a gaming alley lines the store along with some of the leading fashion watches and accessory brands like Esprit Timewear, Antonio Bernini, Pierre Cardin, Tanya Rossi, Madison New York and Westar.
Forevermark, a De Beers diamond brand collaborated with Tarun Tahiliani’s Couture Exposition for the fifth consecutive year. Held at the Four Seasons in Mumbai, on display was the Forvermark Encordia collection from Notandass Jewellers. To celebrate his long standing association with Forevermark, Tarun Tahiliani designed an extraordinary couture piece – an iridescent black gown with a slight trail and a modern silhouette that sought its design stimulus from the Forevermark Encordia collection. The Encordia Collection, inspired by the ancient Greek knot of Herakles, symbolises the strongest of bonds.
